Lorem Ipsum

Generate as much placeholder text as a layout needs - by words, by sentences or by paragraphs - and paste it straight into a mockup.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Why placeholder text is nonsense on purpose

Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin, and its meaninglessness is the feature. Filling a mockup with real copy invites everyone in the room to review the writing instead of the layout, and a design review that turns into a copy edit produces neither a good design nor good copy.

It also has roughly the letter distribution and word length of English, so a block of it occupies about the space real text will. Repeating a single word or using a paragraph of English you happen to like both distort the visual rhythm and give a misleading impression of the finished page.

When to stop using it

Placeholder text hides problems that only appear with real content. Headlines are longer than the elegant three words in the mockup. Some names are very long and some product descriptions are empty. A layout that only works with tidy uniform paragraphs will break the day it meets a real database.

Use lorem ipsum for early exploration and switch to realistic content - genuinely long titles, empty states, awkward edge cases - before anything is signed off. The bugs it surfaces are cheap to fix at that stage and expensive afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

What does lorem ipsum mean?
Nothing coherent. It is scrambled Latin derived from a first-century BC text by Cicero, used as placeholder since the sixteenth century because it looks like text without being readable.
Why not use real text in a mockup?
Because reviewers read it. Real copy turns a layout review into a copy review, and the design feedback you actually needed never arrives.
Can I generate a specific number of words?
Yes. Generate by word count, sentence count or paragraph count depending on what the layout needs.
Is lorem ipsum bad for SEO?
Only if it reaches production. A published page of placeholder text has no useful content to rank and looks unfinished to anyone who lands on it.
