How to use the SVG to PNG Converter
Drop in your SVG files
Rendered by your browser, not by a server.
Choose the output width
A vector has no natural size, so this is an instruction rather than a limit. Pick double the display size for high-density screens.
Download the PNG
Transparent background is preserved.
Pick the size deliberately
This is the one conversion where output size is a real decision rather than a detail. An SVG describes shapes, not pixels, so it can be rendered at any resolution with no loss - and the PNG you get is fixed at whatever you chose, with all the scaling limitations that implies.
Render at roughly double the size the image will be displayed at if it is going somewhere with high-density screens. For a favicon or an app icon, render at the exact size the specification asks for rather than scaling a larger export down.
What does not survive rasterisation
Scalability, which was the point of the SVG. Keep the original file - a PNG cannot be enlarged later without going soft, and there is no way back to the vector.
Fonts are the common failure. An SVG referencing a font by name renders using whatever your browser can find; if the font is not installed, the text falls back to something else and that substitution is baked permanently into the PNG. Convert text to outlines in your vector editor before exporting if the typeface matters.
Externally referenced images and stylesheets are not loaded, for security reasons. An SVG that pulls in a remote asset will render without it.
Frequently asked questions
- What size will the PNG be?
- Whatever width you set - an SVG has no intrinsic resolution. The height follows from the aspect ratio. Files sized only in percentages default to 1024 pixels wide.
- Is the transparent background kept?
- Yes. PNG supports transparency, so an SVG with no background produces a PNG with none either.
- Why does the text look wrong?
- The SVG references a font your browser cannot find, so it substituted another one. Convert text to outlines in your vector editor before exporting.
- Can I convert a PNG back to SVG?
- Not meaningfully. Going from pixels back to shapes requires tracing, which is a different operation producing an approximation. Keep the original SVG.
